Khamenei Endorses Ahmadinejad's Anti-Western Stance
With President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad by his side, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei this weekend endorsed the anti-Western policies of the Iranian president, who has called for Israel to be "wiped off the map," The Los Angeles Times reported. "As regards foreign policy, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always adopted an aggressive stance, and changing this policy into a defensive position, which has unfortunately happened sometimes, is wrong," Khamenei said. He also declared that Iran would continue to develop nuclear weapons technology without regard to the "hues and cries" of foreign powers. Khamenei is the final arbiter of political, military and religious decisions in Iran's government, which the State Department lists as the world's leading state sponsor of international terrorism.
